My “New” Morning Rhythm

FROM THE DESK OF IELA GALIANO-WILLIAMS

A place to begin…

…a mini reflection & encouragement.

For the past year, I have been putting off trying to find a morning rhythm with God that fits into my new normal with my very active daughter.

I know God welcomes even the smallest bit of time we make. You've probably even heard me say this before! I've lived into this truth in the past and watched it bear fruit. Yet, this time around it has taken me an entire year to dive back in.

I've continued talking with God often and meeting with a spiritual director, but our intentional one-on-one time together has, understandably, taken a nose dive. I miss it, so I'm trying again, but I'm starting small…like tiny tiny. But you know what? I've noticed a difference.

Every morning, I am trying to read one prewritten prayer from A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie (TL2 grads you'll know these prayers!). Doing this one thing is about all my brain, and my daughter, has capacity for. Yet, as I began this practice, I have noticed that my mental posture for the day has shifted. I have felt lighter and more open to resting in God's desires for the day.

It isn't a perfect mixture, and there are days when it doesn't happen, but I share this in case, like me, you are pondering your own tiny place to just start. Even if what you have to offer feels like the smallest possible place to begin. Bring your few coins or small basket of loaves and fishes to God and notice how God treasures it.
