This is Jacob

MEET OUR BOOKKEEPER!

Hi, I’m Jacob!

Most days you can find me crunching numbers, organizing spreadsheets, and keeping administrative details organized—often with a coffee in hand and one (or both) of my mini-Bernedoodles curled up nearby.

I am known for bringing calm to chaos and joy to the mundane. Whether I’m reconciling accounts or coordinating a church event, I find deep meaning in supporting others behind the scenes.

I love helping people to better understand the complexities of the Bible. In college, I took all the classes I could on biblical literature, languages, history, geography, and archaeology. I enjoy walking with people through processes of religious deconstruction, in hopes that we can also experience a process of REconstruction, finding that God is far better than some misconceptions we may have learned earlier in life.

What I am most passionate about in life is helping people grow—spiritually, personally, and vocationally. Through pastoral care, mentoring, or simply taking logistical burdens off someone’s plate, I’m energized by seeing people thrive. One of my first seminary classes required meeting regularly with a spiritual director. That experience deepened my faith and influenced how I approach ministry.

When I am not working for PAX, you can find me co-pastoring North Street Community Church in Hingham, MA, walking dogs, playing Pokemon Go, or spending time with my lovely wife, Rachel (who is a spiritual director).

Here are a few things you may not know about me!

  1. I grew up in Holland, Michigan and have the wooden shoes to prove it.

  2. I’m an Eagle Scout—yes, I can still tie the knots.

  3. I love collecting and learning odd instruments. Recent favorites: the otamatone and steel tongue drum.

  4. As a teenager, I had a mohawk that I’d dye different colors. I was as far from being a troublemaker as could be, but I liked subverting expectations.

  5. I have a standing offer to anyone: if you provide the slab of brisket, I’ll spend a day smoking it and host dinner.

I would love to connect with you! Whether it’s to talk about the Bible, budgeting, or brisket, feel free to reach out.

If you are ready to take your own step into soul care, as a behind the scenes or front and center kind of person, we’d love to have you join an upcoming cohort! Learn more below.
