MEET OUR SATURDAY TL1 ASSISTANT FACILITATOR!
Hi! My name is Tess. It’s great to meet you!
Most weekdays, you’ll find me in front of a computer screen or on the phone. In addition to the time I spend with the PAX team, I work for a non-profit raising funds and awareness to bring clean water to people in crisis in many parts of Africa. Whenever I can, I try to swap the computer and phone to be face-to-face with someone over a tea or mocha latte, or taking a walk together.
I’m known for my love of dark chocolate and deep conversations, especially about God and what a walk of faith looks like as it intersects daily life. I make a mean lasagna and love to cook. I was born in the Midwest, and I like to think I’ve retained the warm midwestern welcoming spirit combined with a good dose of Yankee independence.
While you might think I’m an extrovert when you meet me, I love peaceful, quiet places. My morning tea, walks with the dogs, and time with my journal and the Scriptures are soul food for me. The cool air in the mornings wakes me up and clears my mind.
This quote from Frederick Buechner resonates with me and has been an inspiration to me in recent years.
“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.”
Through a recent season of discernment, coupled with prayer and wise counsel, I have discovered what my life has been speaking for decades, and I can offer my most authentic self to others through the ministries of soul care.
My journey led me to the PAX Center, to an incredible Spiritual Director, and I feel like I’ve found my ‘tribe’ with those seeking to grow closer to God.
Things that bring me deep joy are my family, time spent with close friends, gardening, walking in the cool of the day, a pot of soup on the stove in the autumn, and reading historical fiction (when I can find the time!).
Here are a few things you may not know about me!
I love to dance
The screen porch at my house is my happy place
I’ve traveled to Kenya 10 times in the last 10 years
In addition to Christian traditions and holidays, I feel connected to the Jewish holidays Jesus observed and can even blow the ram’s horn (the shofar)
Some of my past fun part-time jobs have been driving a limousine and instructing pilates
I’d love to connect with you! There is nothing greater in life than coming to deeply know and experience the soul-soaking truth that we are loved by God, known by God, and accepted by God. Let’s journey deeper toward that truth together! My email is tamim.listening@gmail.com.
