A Summer Spiritual Practice
FROM THE DESK OF IELA GALIANO-WILLIAMS
When I was younger & people asked me what my dream job was, the answer I gave was always back up dancer for Beyonce…
Now, I didn't actually pursue this dream as new ones emerged as I grew, but dancing remains something that brings me life!
I was recently listening to a podcast interview with singer/songwriter, Natasha Bedingfield, where she named that one of her mental health practices as an artist is to set aside time to take herself on a date.
What this looks like for her is to think about what she was passionate about as a child & then do something related to that passion. So for example, you wanted to be an astronaut? Visit a space museum! You dreamed about being an architect? Take a walk & notice the structures around you!
The idea is that returning to something you loved as a child can be grounding, a way to get to know yourself again, & a beautiful way to rekindle passions.
Well, however you phrase it, the suggestion stuck with me and as we have passed Memorial Day & officially turned the corner towards summer, this began to seem like a really beautiful summer spiritual practice.
And so, I invite you to join me! What might it look like to rekindle an interest you had as a child & rediscover play with God? Or as Ken Gire encourages it in his book, Windows of the Soul, remembering what brought us joy as a child.
What might this birth in us this summer?
Let's go on some adventures with God (even if it's just dancing in the kitchen).
Do you have plans for the fall? Now is the time to learn more & snag one of our final seats in a cohort!
